What’s New in SAP EAM: Exploring the Latest AI-Driven Features
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become an integral part of the SAP ecosystem. SAP embeds AI deeply into its solutions to make business processes smarter, faster, and more autonomous.
AI enables organisations to turn their data into direct action, from predictive maintenance in SAP APM to the automation of daily operational tasks through natural language interaction with SAP Joule. By combining intelligent algorithms with real-time business data, SAP helps companies optimise their assets, reduce downtime, and enhance decision-making.

SAP Joule: Generative AI in Action
SAP Joule is the generative AI assistant embedded across the entire SAP suite, from the Fiori Launchpad to mobile apps and even Microsoft 365 Copilot. Joule understands natural language and executes actions based on simple commands, such as “Show open maintenance orders with high priority”.
By combining several specialised AI agents, Joule helps users find data, start workflows, and summarise insights. Its strength lies in simplicity: anyone can interact with SAP data through chat or voice commands, without requiring technical knowledge.
AI in SAP EAM: From Work Request to Completion
SAP Enterprise Asset Management (SAP EAM) enables organisations to efficiently manage physical assets, such as machinery, equipment, and infrastructure. Within this module, a range of AI-driven functionalities already support and streamline maintenance processes.
When creating new maintenance orders, SAP EAM now uses AI to analyse historical data and automatically suggest suitable templates. It also provides intelligent recommendations based on previously successful orders and proposes similar orders when new notifications are created. This speeds up the creation process and ensures consistent, high-quality work orders.
Searching through maintenance data has also become much easier thanks to AI Easy Filters. Users can search in natural language within apps such as Manage Maintenance Notifications, for example, simply typing “open leak notifications on pipelines”. SAP interprets the query and immediately returns the relevant results.
Joule also offers effortless access to SAP data. Users can ask for specific business objects such as work centers, materials, or bills of material, and view them directly without complex navigation. Within the same conversation, users can retrieve a list of notifications or orders and navigate straight to a specific record.
Technicians are supported by Joule in the Perform Maintenance Jobs app as well. They can view job details, assign jobs to themselves, and even start or pause work orders using chat commands.
Joule further assists in creating and reviewing maintenance events for technical objects, providing insights into planned and overdue activities. Through the chatbot interface, users can easily assign notifications and orders to specific events.

Another innovative feature is Insight Cards. Joule automatically generates data cards with relevant insights, such as maintenance status, recent activities, or critical assets, which users can pin to their personal homepage. This gives quick access to frequently used information and supports data-driven decision-making.

Predictive Maintenance with AI in SAP APM
In SAP Asset Performance Management (SAP APM), AI primarily drives predictive analytics. One example is Anomaly Detection, which continuously monitors sensor data to identify irregular patterns. When the system detects an anomaly, it can automatically generate an alert, helping maintenance teams act before an issue escalates.
Visual Inspection is another AI-supported functionality: using image recognition, the system can detect corrosion, cracks, or other defects early on, based on photos or video footage.
Another valuable use case is Failure Curve Analysis, which calculates an asset’s expected lifetime based on historical failure data: a powerful tool for reliability engineers! Within SAP APM, SAP Joule is also gaining traction as a conversational tool for retrieving analyses and accelerating insight generation.
AI in the Field: SAP FSM and SAAM
SAP Field Service Management (FSM) also leverages AI to enhance field operations. AI-driven scheduling automates the assignment of technicians, taking into account availability, skills, customer preferences, and even traffic conditions. Based on historical data, AI can accurately predict task duration, helping organisations optimise workforce utilisation. Routing has become increasingly intelligent as well, with predictive traffic analysis improving travel time estimations and on-site efficiency.
Technicians can easily retrieve information using natural language filters and access summaries of previously completed work upon arrival, saving valuable time in the field.
For those using the SAP Service and Asset Manager (SAAM) mobile app, AI simplifies feedback reporting. Through speech or text input, technicians can quickly log completed tasks, enabling faster and more accurate data capture.
AI is already deeply embedded within SAP’s maintenance and service solutions. From intelligent work orders in EAM to predictive analytics in APM and automated scheduling in FSM, AI empowers organisations to respond faster, reduce costs, and minimise unplanned downtime.
With SAP Joule as an intuitive gateway to data and decision-making, maintenance becomes not only more efficient but also more user-friendly. AI within SAP is no longer reserved for data experts; it’s built for everyone working with assets, from technicians to maintenance managers.
