• Decentralised management complicates knowledge exchange
• Standardising without compromising flexibility and identity of plants
• Standardisation of work preparation process
• Uniform work preparation procedure
• Improved interchangeability of knowledge and flexibility
LANXESS NV brings together six practices into one maintenance process
LANXESS aims for uniformity in maintenance processes across six plants. Emixa helped with a three-phase improvement trajectory, resulting in a standardised work preparation process. The process leads to better collaboration, knowledge sharing and preparation for peak moments, and forms the basis for a permanent improvement process.
Business challenges
LANXESS' High Performance Materials (HPM) department in Antwerp faced the challenge of standardising six different maintenance approaches without losing the flexibility and identity of the plants. Decentralised management made it difficult to share know-how and best practices between plants, leading to risks and extra costs. Emixa was brought in to help standardise the maintenance process whilst retaining differences between plants. The result is a standardised process and increased interchangeability of knowledge. LANXESS is now 'fit for the future' and is at the beginning of a permanent improvement process.
Keys to success
Emixa helped with the standardisation, with three phases: interviews, workshops and implementation. The result is a standardised process that supports employees and improves the sharing of knowledge and best practices. LANXESS is now 'fit for the future' and is starting a permanent improvement process for further optimisation.
Results
The result is a standardised process that supports employees and enhances the exchange of knowledge and best practices. LANXESS is now 'fit for the future' and initiates an ongoing improvement process for further optimisation.
"The interchangeability of knowledge has increased, making us better prepared for workload peaks."
