Compare SAP ETM vs successor ETM.next

Table of contents

With S/4HANA and Fiori, SAP is making great strides into the cloud. But what does this mean for organizations using SAP ETM to support their rental processes? The answer is simple: a move to ETM.next. This new iteration of the trusted solution offers - in addition to native cloud support - numerous new features and benefits.

With the transition to S/4HANA and Fiori, the SAP ETM solution is being phased out. The phasing out stems from the so-called "keep the core clean" principle regarding S/4HANA. Within this principle, only the processes that all organizations need are supported. All other options are kept outside the core and run as add-ons. This setup makes it easier to activate new applications in SAP without compromising the stability of the core processes.

The cloud solution ETM.next:

  • eases the transition to S/4HANA;
  • has a user-friendly interface;
  • offers an (internal) web shop for rental;
  • works for both time- and performance-based rentals;
  • is easy to integrate with IoT.

A smooth transition to S/4HANA

ETM.next is an SAP Industry Cloud Solution that also functions standalone. That means that this BearingPoint product integrates seamlessly with SAP and integration issues are avoided. This is a significant advantage for SAP users over other best-of-breed rental solutions. Relevant data in ETM.next is available within both the core of SAP and in other add-on modules. Even for organizations that are not yet transitioning from ECC, switching to ETM.next is worth considering. By implementing this module standalone, a portion of the customization from the current system can already be removed. Additionally, the pressure on the core decreases, and a future transition to S/4HANA is facilitated.

User-friendly interface simplifies work

One of the striking innovations from the familiar SAP ETM solution concerns the interface update. This is in line with Fiori's tiling concepts that make it much easier for both new and existing users to find their way around the application. Instead of creating a requirement report line by line (with date and quantity per line), it is now possible to work through a web shop. This ease of use makes daily tasks easier and shortens the training time for new employees.

Webshop integrates rental with project management

In the webshop, large equipment, tools and consumables and even (specialized) personnel can be selected for the project. The selection in the webshop is directly linked to the project and forms the basis for further planning. After this, things like a digital planning board and a budget monitoring module can be set up.

For time- and performance-based rental

ETM.next supports both time-based and performance-based rentals. In a time-based rental, rental costs are automatically posted to the project at inception and depreciation goes directly to operations. In a performance-based rental, costs are posted to the project and revenue goes to operations. At the desired frequency, invoices are automatically created and forwarded to the accountant. This integration allows the project manager to keep a much closer eye on cost trends.

ETM.next supports the rental of consumables, tools and equipment

With SAP's transition to the cloud, the SAP ETM solution is being phased out and ETM.next is its successor. ETM.next offers greater ease of use and better integration within the organization. Does your organization work internally or externally with the rental of consumables, tools or equipment and are you curious what this transition could mean for you?
