How Emixa supported GVB's journey into a data-driven organisation
GVB, Amsterdam's public transportation company, operates a comprehensive network of subways, trams, buses, and ferries, ensuring efficient mobility throughout the city. The maintenance of this fleet is one of its key activities. In its quest to become the smartest transportation company in Europe through digitalisation, GVB wants to become a data-driven organisation. How can it unlock maintenance data and use it in its daily operations?
Business challenges
GVB required expert assistance to implement data solutions on its journey towards becoming a data-driven organisation. Within the company, there were diverse and ambitious requirements for utilising maintenance data. Meeting these numerous demands was a complex challenge. As GVB operates a fleet of 90 subway trains, 200 trams, 233 buses, and 19 ferries, one can imagine the vast amount of maintenance data available for analysis.
Keys to success
Our consultants are proficient in both SAP and Microsoft, the main tools used by GVB. This expertise made Emixa the ideal partner for extracting SAP data in the manner desired by GVB. We collaborated closely with both key users and application specialists at GVB, ensuring that our consultants delivered a data model that reflected the complex reality of maintenance operations and met the organisation's diverse needs. The dataset was modelled using a star schema, a widely adopted and valued approach for its ease of understanding and analysis, making it accessible to a diverse group of users.
Results
Our consultants delivered a dataset with functionalities tailored to meet diverse business requirements. Moreover, it was automatically processed on a daily basis, allowing GVB to make data-driven decisions in their maintenance planning, such as hiring and scheduling sufficient mechanics or tracking the performance of a vehicle. This put data at the heart of its maintenance operations.
How Emixa supported GVB's journey of becoming a data-driven organisation
"Partnering with Emixa has enabled GVB to use data in our maintenance operations and processes, allowing us to make smarter, data-driven decisions. The Emixa and GVB team worked very effectively together, resulting in happy stakeholders in the various GVB maintenance departments."
