Precision and control: how BAM Infra Equipment transformed efficiency
BAM Infra Equipment is launching a new digital rental process to provide their internal business units with construction necessities. Previously, they used a time-consuming and error-prone analogue process, but the new system, developed in collaboration with Emixa, includes a web shop where employees can easily order equipment and materials. This has resulted in improved inventory control, fewer ordering errors, increased efficiency, and enhanced project management. The positive reception from employees and the interest from other BAM Infra Netherlands divisions attest to the success of the initiative.
BAM Infra Equipment uses SAP Equipment & Tools Management (ETM) in combination with Prefab SAP add-ons from Emixa, a solution that supports end-to-end processes for material and equipment rental, including a web shop, a plan board, and a mobile app for order picking.
Business challenges
BAM Infra Equipment faced the challenge of improving their outdated, time-consuming, and error-prone analogue rental process. They rented a wide range of construction necessities to BAM's internal business units, with orders placed by telephone and e-mail and then processed manually. This led to inefficiency, inventory problems, and long waiting times at the warehouses.
In collaboration with Emixa, they developed an integrated digital rental process based on SAP Equipment & Tools Management (ETM), with a user-friendly web shop for employees to order equipment and materials. This has resulted in improved inventory control, fewer ordering errors, increased efficiency, and enhanced project management. The positive reception from employees and the interest from other BAM Infra Netherlands divisions attest to the success of the initiative.
Keys to success
BAM Infra Equipment's new digital rental process succeeded by moving from a time-consuming and error-prone analogue system to a streamlined digital rental portal. In collaboration with Emixa, they developed a solution based on SAP Equipment & Tools Management (ETM), supplemented with Prefab SAP add-ons and a user interface built in SAP Fiori.
This optimised five logistical processes, including a web shop for easy and user-friendly ordering, a coordinator cockpit for process management, digital pick lists for order pickers, and a helpdesk for enquiries.
Results
BAM Infra Equipment's new digital rental process has led to significant improvements. Previously, they used a manual analogue process to rent construction necessities to BAM's internal business units, which was time-consuming and error-prone. In collaboration with Emixa, they have now set up a digital rental portal based on SAP Equipment & Tools Management (ETM) and Prefab SAP add-ons.
This system includes a web shop for easy ordering and has led to improved inventory control, fewer ordering errors, increased efficiency, and better project management. Employees are enthusiastic and the future offers possibilities for further improvement and application of new technologies such as Predictive Maintenance.
"Our employees can't do without it any more."
From construction cabins and fencing to roadblocks, company vehicles, and coffee makers — BAM Infra Equipment rents out all these essential items to BAM's internal business units. Until recently, this process relied on a manual analogue approach, but recognising the potential for greater efficiency, Process Coordinator Pieter Dalsheim and Site Coordinator Rob Goijens, in collaboration with Emixa, developed a digital rental process in which the executive organisation can easily and quickly order all its equipment and materials.
