SAP has been a major player in the ERP market for years. With the SAP ECC-Business Suite, SAP developers have the ability to add custom software to standard configured business processes.
However, SAP will end support for the ECC-Business Suite in 2025. In the new S/4HANA environment, which replaces the ECC-Business Suite, customization is no longer desired, and the focus is on standard solutions for standard business processes. With 'Mendix on top of SAP,' Emixa offers intelligent custom applications to replace existing customizations or meet new needs.
Fit to standard
With S/4HANA, SAP prefers configuration over programming. They call this 'Fit to standard.' S/4HANA offers many more standard solutions based on best practices than the ECC-Business Suite. However, it is entirely possible that not all existing customization can be replaced by these standard solutions. Therefore, SAP recommends developing existing and future customizations in Mendix.
Customization or standard solutions in the cloud?
When migrating to SAP S/4HANA, you have two options: run S/4HANA in-house or move to the cloud. Especially in the multi-tenant cloud, you can save significantly on customization costs. This cloud solution offers a standard SAP system with pre-programmed processes for your industry. It is therefore wise to inventory what customization you currently have, what you actually use, and how much of it can be covered by the best practices that SAP provides in its multi-tenant cloud.
Customization thanks to 'Mendix on top of SAP'
If you need custom solutions in the ERP system for the transition to S/4HANA, 'Mendix on top of SAP' is a good solution. Thanks to the low-code programming language and RAD (Rapid Application Development), you can quickly and cost-effectively develop customization and add it to your standard SAP environment. These custom applications communicate via APIs with the core modules of SAP, keeping the core of the ERP system free from customization.
Customization is employed, for example, when your specific circumstances are too complex for SAP's standard solutions or when you need to quickly respond to new developments or technologies. Thanks to 'Mendix on top of SAP,' you can keep 'your' S/4HANA untouched and use Mendix for innovation and differentiation.
This setup is not only cheaper because it is faster to implement than traditional SAP customization, but it can also ensure the continuity of your business.
Simplify the transition from ECC
If you are currently using the ECC-Business Suite and need customization, it is wise to fill this need now directly with Mendix. When you later transition to S/4HANA, this functionality can be taken directly. A smart organization is prepared for the future!
